Amankwah Forson Joins Hapoel Be'er Sheva on Loan
Norwich City midfielder Amankwah Forson will spend the season in Israel after completing a loan move to Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
The 23-year-old only arrived at Carrow Road earlier this year, signing a four-year deal in 2024 after joining from RB Salzburg, but now steps into a different kind of spotlight. Hapoel Be'er Sheva, six-time champions of Israel, are preparing for the league phase of this season’s Europa League, where they will face Juventus, AFC Bournemouth and Besiktas.
For a player still carving out his identity in European football, the stage could hardly be bigger.
Forson has already shown flashes of his range in England. The Ghana international has made 44 appearances for Norwich in all competitions, scoring four goals and offering the kind of energy between the lines that quickly caught the eye in the Championship. Yet competition for places in the Canaries’ midfield remains fierce, and regular minutes at that level are never guaranteed.
So he heads to the Negev desert and a club used to punching above its weight on the continental scene. Hapoel Be'er Sheva’s presence in the Europa League league phase gives Forson a rare blend for a 23-year-old: the grind of a domestic title chase and the sharp edge of European nights against heavyweight opposition.
Norwich, tied to Forson on a long-term contract, will watch closely. If he handles Juventus in Turin or unpicks Bournemouth and Besiktas on the European circuit, he does more than gain experience. He returns to Norfolk as a different proposition entirely.
For now, the yellow and green give way to red and white. The next step in Forson’s career will be measured not in promise, but in how he stands up to the Europa League glare.
