Arsenal Firm on Noni Madueke: No January Exit
Arsenal have drawn a firm line in the sand over Noni Madueke – he is not leaving in January.
Mikel Arteta still sees the 24-year-old as an important part of his squad at the Emirates, even if the Premier League minutes tell a very different story. The message from the club is clear: no loan, no sale, no mid-season reshuffle that weakens the forward line.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are ready to bat away any approaches for the winger when the window opens. Interest is not in short supply. Juventus and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs tracking his situation, sensing an opportunity as frustration grows over his limited role in north London. The Italians, in particular, are believed to be weighing up a loan move to sharpen their attack.
The door, though, is effectively shut. Arsenal do not want to lose senior depth halfway through a demanding campaign, and Arteta has Madueke firmly in his short-term plans. The player, for his part, is not agitating for a move. Those close to the situation insist he has no intention of walking away from his Arsenal career just as the season begins to bite. He wants to stay, fight, and force his way into the starting XI.
Competition
That fight is brutally simple to define and brutally hard to win: Bukayo Saka.
Saka is the undisputed first choice on the right flank, the cornerstone of Arteta’s attack. Behind him, highly rated teenager Max Dowman is also pushing for chances, adding another layer of competition. Madueke has been squeezed, reduced to just 24 minutes of league action across two substitute appearances, with no goals or assists to his name in the Premier League this term.
Cup Performances
Cup competitions tell a different story. Madueke started the Community Shield, featured in the Champions League win over Napoli, and found the net in the 4-2 Carabao Cup victory against Ipswich Town. When the stage has shifted away from the league, he has looked far more like the dynamic winger Arsenal believed they were getting.
International Impact
That contrast has not helped him at international level. Thomas Tuchel left Madueke out of his latest England Nations League squad, with the winger’s lack of regular match fitness a key factor. For a player in his mid-twenties, those omissions sting. They also sharpen the stakes of the months ahead.
Looking Ahead
Now the calendar turns towards winter and the schedule thickens. Matches stack up, legs tire, and rotation stops being a choice and becomes a necessity. This is Madueke’s opening. Every domestic cup tie, every European fixture, every late cameo in the league becomes an audition – not only to loosen Saka’s grip on that right-wing berth, but to drag himself back into the England conversation.
Arsenal will not entertain a January exit. The next move is Madueke’s.
