Arsenal Sign Andria Bartishvili: A Strategic Move for the Future

Arsenal have already moved on to 2027 – and they’ve done it by beating Liverpool to one of Europe’s most talked‑about teenagers.

While the last few days have been dominated by exits at the Emirates, the champions have quietly locked in the future. Ethan Nwaneri has gone to Borussia Dortmund on loan. Gabriel Jesus has joined Barcelona in a £12m deal including add-ons. Gabriel Martinelli has departed for Al-Hilal for £60m. Fabio Vieira has left for Hamburg for £8.6m. Four forwards out. No direct replacements through the door.

Yet look at Mikel Arteta’s squad and you still see a group every rival would swap with. Depth, variety, experience, star power – Arsenal carry it all. Liverpool can point to a core of world-class talent who would walk into Arteta’s XI, but beyond that? The drop-off at Anfield is clear, and so is the sense that they are short of a genuine title push.

Arsenal, by contrast, are building for now and for what comes after this cycle. Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes, both 28, arrived to strengthen a side ready to win immediately. At the same time, the club have kept one eye firmly on the horizon.

That long view has just delivered Andria Bartishvili.

Arsenal win the race for Georgian prodigy

Across the summer, Arsenal and Liverpool went head to head for the signature of the 17-year-old Georgian attacking midfielder. Liverpool made their move and put a contract on the table. For a while, the race looked open.

Then the picture changed.

On August 29, Fabrizio Romano broke the news that Bartishvili had chosen Arsenal, delivering his trademark “here we go” to confirm an agreement with the Premier League champions. The deal is straightforward but smart: Bartishvili will sign a five-year contract, with Arsenal paying a fee worth €4.5m to his club, as confirmed by Romano via @Geo_team.

Because of his age, the plan is clear. The teenager will officially join Arsenal in June 2027, when he turns 18, and will go straight into the first-team group.

Romano outlined the timeline in stages. First came the agreement. Then, a few days later, the update that Bartishvili was travelling to London to complete the formalities and undergo his medical. Now, the final piece has fallen into place.

On Friday morning, Romano stated that the medical had been completed and the transfer was “formally sealed”, adding that “Georgian talent Andria Bartishvili can be considered a new Arsenal player” and that he will join the first team in the summer of 2027.

A statement about the future

This is not a signing for the weekend. It is a marker. Arsenal, already champions, are preparing the next version of themselves while the current one still dominates the league.

Liverpool pushed, made their offer, and lost out. Arsenal, operating from a position of strength, could afford to wait three years for a player they believe will be worth it.

Bartishvili will not kick a ball for the club until 2027. By then, this Arsenal side could look very different. The question is simple: will he be arriving to keep a dynasty going, or to help start the next one?
