Barcelona Surpasses 21st-Century Scoring Record Even Messi’s Teams Couldn’t Reach
Barcelona have started their campaign with a remarkable goal-scoring run that even some of their best attacking squads in history would envy. Under Hansi Flick, they have netted 36 goals in just eight competitive games, marking the highest tally ever recorded by the club at this stage.
This total also ranks as the second-best in La Liga history, with only Sevilla’s 1940/41 team scoring more goals during a similar stretch.
Scoring Breakdown Highlights Deadly Efficiency
The numbers become more impressive when examining individual performances. Barcelona has already produced seven braces and two hat-tricks, meaning nine separate multi-goal displays before the season is fully underway.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal Drive the Attack
Setting aside a 2-0 win against Athletic Club, Barcelona have scored at least three goals in every other match across both La Liga and the Champions League.
Raphinha leads the charge with 14 goals so far, including braces against Elche, Rayo Vallecano, and Feyenoord, plus back-to-back hat-tricks versus Racing Santander and Sevilla. He has also scored in every game except one, the fixture against Levante.
Lamine Yamal, the teenage sensation, trails closely with seven goals. He has recorded braces against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, and Levante and also scored against Racing. Yamal adds to his threat with four assists, sharing the top assist spot with Anthony Gordon at the club.
Fermin Lopez rounds out the leading trio. He scored twice against Elche and added goals against Athletic and Valencia, finding the net in three of the first four matches.
Barcelona Outpaces Even the Messi Era
The rapid pace of these individual scoring feats might be the most eye-catching detail. The seven braces and two hat-tricks total nine multi-goal performances, the best start for Barcelona in the 21st century, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Even the Lionel Messi-led sides never reached this number in their opening eight competitive games. For example, in the 2016/17 season, Barca had four braces and two hat-tricks combined, totaling 14 goals from those efforts. Messi contributed two braces and one hat-trick, Luis Suarez provided the other brace and hat-trick, while Arda Turan also scored twice.
Flick Builds a Consistent Scoring Pattern
This kind of attacking performance isn’t completely new under Flick. His first season at Barcelona saw many individual highlights, including two braces by Robert Lewandowski, one by Yamal, and Raphinha’s brace and hat-trick.
Last season added five more braces from players like Lewandowski, Raphinha, Fermin, Marcus Rashford, and Ferran Torres. Now, what stands out is how quickly these performances are coming. With 36 goals already, Flick’s squad is producing a string of impressive individual displays that elevate this start into historic territory.
