Barcelona Watches Closely as Chelsea's Estevao Grows Frustrated Under Xabi Alonso

Estevao, the promising Brazilian winger at Chelsea, is becoming increasingly frustrated with his scarce playing time under coach Xabi Alonso. This tension has put Barcelona on alert, eyeing a potential transfer opportunity in upcoming windows.

Struggles at Stamford Bridge

So far this season, Estevao has only managed 23 minutes across five Premier League games. His starts have been limited to the EFL Cup, leaving the 19-year-old feeling sidelined and dissatisfied. After a debut season adapting to English football, he had hoped for more consistent involvement but now doubts his immediate future at the club.

Tactical Differences with Alonso

Reports suggest a cold war between Estevao and Alonso stemming from tactical disagreements. The player prefers moving centrally rather than staying wide on the right wing, but that central spot belongs to Cole Palmer. Additionally, Estevao is hesitant to continue bulking up, fearing it will reduce his pace and agility—his main strengths on the attack.

Despite these issues, Estevao isn't currently pushing for a transfer, nor are his agents actively seeking an exit from Chelsea.

Professionalism Amid Challenges

"Every manager has their way of playing and, of course, I work every day and give my best," Estevao said while on international duty with Brazil in Australia. "We have a lot of players with immense quality at Chelsea. I focus on what I can control. When I have a chance, I try to give my best."

Alonso has publicly expressed confidence in Estevao, stating there is a full chance the youngster will receive more opportunities due to his talent.

Barcelona’s Continued Interest

Though no transfer seems imminent, Barcelona remains attentive. They tracked Estevao closely when he played for Palmeiras but chose to prioritize Lamine Yamal instead, allowing Chelsea to sign Estevao for €61.5 million. Sporting director Deco still keeps tabs on Estevao’s situation in London and is monitoring how things develop at Stamford Bridge.
