Chelsea’s Pursuit of Manu Koné Continues
The window is shut, the market noise has died down, but one name refuses to leave the conversation: Manu Koné.
In the frantic final hours of the summer transfer window, the French midfielder found himself at the centre of a tug of war. Chelsea moved late and hard, opening talks with Roma in an effort to drag him to London and into the Premier League spotlight. It was bold. It was serious. It was close enough to make people inside Trigoria uneasy.
Then Gian Piero Gasperini stepped in.
The Roma manager drew a clear line. Koné, in his eyes, is not a luxury piece or a tradable asset; he is a cornerstone. Gasperini’s stance was firm, his veto decisive. With his refusal to sanction the move, the deal collapsed and Chelsea’s late push hit a brick wall.
That should have been the end of it. It rarely is.
Reports from France, via Sport.FR, suggest Chelsea have not walked away. Far from cooling, their interest in Koné has survived the deadline and is already being projected forward to January. The plan is simple: regroup, reassess, and come back when the winter market opens.
For now, Koné stays in Rome. He trains under a coach who clearly trusts him and sees him as central to Roma’s project. Gasperini is holding his ground, protecting a player he believes can shape his team’s identity in the months ahead.
But Chelsea do not usually ask twice. They tend to knock until the door opens.
Trigoria may have won the first round. The real question is whether Roma – and Gasperini – can resist when the next one begins in January.
