Harry Kane set to extend Bayern Munich contract
Harry Kane set to shut door on Manchester United as Bayern prepare new deal
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made no secret of the kind of centre-forward he believes should lead the line at Old Trafford. Powerful, ruthless, guaranteed goals. In other words: Harry Kane.
That dream is about to be locked away in Bavaria.
Manchester United have been monitoring Kane’s situation ever since it became clear his Bayern Munich contract runs out at the end of the season. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported on August 10 that United were among the clubs ready to explore a move, with sources indicating Ratcliffe is a “huge fan” of the England captain and willing to consider a deal to prise him away from Germany.
The timing looked tempting. Kane, 33, approaching the final year of his deal. A proven Premier League destroyer. A striker Ratcliffe and many at Old Trafford regard as one of the best on the planet.
But the window that seemed to be opening for United is now being slammed shut.
Bayern move to tie down their talisman
From the start, there was a problem for United: Kane has been happy in Munich. Bailey’s initial report made it clear the former Tottenham Hotspur star wanted to stay at Bayern, and the German champions have moved decisively to match that ambition.
Bayern are ready to put a new three-year contract on the table, a deal that would keep Kane in Bavaria well beyond 2026. German outlets now say the saga is close to its conclusion, with an announcement on his future expected next month.
The mood inside Bayern could hardly be more relaxed.
Bild journalist Christian Falk, speaking on his CFBayernInsider platform, described a club utterly at ease with the situation. Kane had just been named “football star of the year” at the Sport Bild Awards, appearing live on a Zoom call while his father, Pat, attended the ceremony at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg.
Falk spoke with Bayern president Herbert Hainer about the negotiations and came away with a clear impression. The message from the top of the club was simple: stay calm. Those close to the talks see a new contract as a matter of time rather than a point of tension.
There are still details to iron out, a few questions in the contract discussions that need to be cleared, but inside Bayern there is strong confidence everything will be resolved. Falk went as far as to say he expects a contract announcement within the next month – and certainly before the year is out.
His belief is unequivocal: Kane will sign an extension that runs beyond 2026.
United’s long chase hits a dead end
If that happens, Kane effectively disappears from the market for the foreseeable future. For United, who have admired the England striker for years and saw this summer as a possible opening, it is a brutal reality check.
Ratcliffe’s admiration is genuine. He sees Kane as the complete centre-forward, the kind of world-class presence who could transform United’s attack and instantly raise the club’s ceiling. The willingness at Old Trafford to consider a move reflected that belief.
But Bayern’s stance is just as firm. They did not sign Kane to be a short-term fix. They signed him to be the face of their forward line, and they are moving to ensure he remains exactly that.
Falk’s closing words carried a sting for Old Trafford: once Kane signs, he is “off the market for every other club for a long time.” His apology to “his long-time admirers, Manchester United” underlined the point.
United wanted a crack at Harry Kane. Bayern are about to make sure they never get one.
