Juventus Targets Franck Kessie as Midfield Enforcer

Franck Kessie has made up his mind. After three lucrative, trophy-laden years in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli, the Ivorian wants a different kind of reward: the pressure, the spotlight and the demands of Juventus.

At 27, with offers on the table from Turkiye and the Saudi Pro League, he could easily stay on the comfortable path. Instead, he is pushing for Turin. Those close to the negotiations describe a player who has already placed his trust in the Bianconeri project and is ready to join “in the coming days” if the clubs can make the numbers work.

A proven Serie A weapon

This is not a gamble for Juve. Kessie has already dominated Serie A once, anchoring and driving AC Milan’s midfield in the years that led to their title win. He knows the league, the rhythm, the hostility of away grounds in Italy. He also knows what it means to carry the weight of a Scudetto chase.

Juventus, by contrast, have looked light in the middle of the pitch for too long. Too many games have drifted by without authority, without that player who can both set the tone and break the opponent’s. Kessie fits that description: powerful, disciplined, aggressive without losing his sense of order.

He brings goals, too. The late runs into the box, the penalty nerve, the ability to arrive on the edge of the area and strike. But his value goes beyond numbers. He shields the defence, snaps into duels, and turns defensive recoveries into counterattacks with one stride and one pass. For a Juventus side often stuck between ideas, that blend of clarity and force is exactly what they have been missing.

Moggi’s seal of approval

Luciano Moggi, never shy with an opinion on Juventus, has thrown his weight firmly behind the move. Speaking to Calciomercato, the former general manager framed Kessie as the kind of signing that changes the level of a department, not just the depth chart.

“This situation can be overcome with a level reinforcement in midfield, which is why in the event of Kessiè's arrival I would say the managers are good,” Moggi said. “The former AC Milan player is someone who can bring order and personality, has the leg and can score goals, can act as a barrier and facilitate counterattacks. I have faith in Carnevali and Massara and the Juventus fans must have it too, let's let them work.”

Order. Personality. Legs. Goals. Barrier. Counterattacks. It is a checklist of everything Juventus have lacked in one of the most scrutinised areas of their squad.

The numbers game

There is, of course, a catch. Juventus still need to clear space on their wage bill before they can close the deal. Sales are being lined up, options weighed, contracts examined. The club hierarchy knows that without exits, there can be no Kessie.

This is where the player’s stance matters. Kessie has made it clear that his priority is a return to a top European club, and Juventus sit at the top of his list. That gives the Bianconeri a crucial edge over the Turkish and Saudi offers, which are richer but less ambitious in sporting terms.

The equation is simple: move players out, free up salary, bring Kessie in. The execution is anything but simple, yet the incentive could not be clearer.

If Juventus manage to push through the necessary departures, Kessie will walk back into Serie A and straight into a midfield that has been crying out for his profile. The question now is not whether he fits, but whether the club can move quickly enough to make sure that this time, the opportunity does not slip away.
