Manchester City Sign Allan Elias for £34.2m as Rebuild Accelerates
Manchester City have moved quickly to plug the gap left by Savio, sealing the signing of Palmeiras winger Allan Elias in a deal worth up to £34.2m.
The 22-year-old Brazilian joins on a five-year contract after City agreed an initial £32m fee with a further £2.2m in add-ons, stepping straight into the vacancy created when Savio completed his £75m switch to Tottenham Hotspur last week.
For Allan, the leap from São Paulo to the Premier League champions marks a defining step.
“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” he said on signing. “To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.
“I love Palmeiras and always will – but the decision to come to City was an easy one. I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I’ve had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn’t a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions.”
A right-sided winger who came through the Palmeiras academy, Allan made 96 appearances for the Brazilian giants, scoring nine goals and supplying 12 assists in all competitions. Those numbers only tell part of the story: he leaves as another export from a production line that has helped shape Brazil’s next generation.
Maresca’s expensive overhaul
Allan becomes the latest piece in what has turned into a lavish first summer in charge for Enzo Maresca.
City have already spent more than £230m in this window alone. Elliot Anderson arrived from Nottingham Forest for £116m, a fee that underlines how aggressively City are backing their new manager. Ayyoub Bouaddi’s £85.6m move from Lille added further weight – and youth – to a squad being reshaped at speed.
The recruitment drive is not finished. City are in talks with Liverpool over Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, a move that would add another versatile attacker to Maresca’s options. They are also keen on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, whose profile fits the club’s long-standing desire for technical control in the middle of the pitch.
This is not reckless spending, though. It is a churn.
City have already brought in more than £286m from player sales. The headline departure is Rodri, the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner and the metronome of City’s midfield for years, who has joined Barcelona in a £65m deal. Tijani Reijnders has also moved on, heading to Al-Qadsiah for £52m.
Those exits have ripped out some of the side’s old spine. The new arrivals are tasked with building another.
Allan, with his pace, direct running and willingness to take on defenders from the right, now walks into a dressing room in transition but still expected to win everything in sight. The fee, the timing, the responsibility: none of it suggests he has been signed to wait his turn.
Maresca’s City are being rebuilt in real time. The question is no longer whether they are changing, but how quickly this new version can start to look as ruthless as the old one.
