Manchester United Pursue Bradley Locko as Left-Back Solution
Manchester United’s search for a left-back is heading into the final stretch of the window, and the profile they want is becoming clearer by the day. Not a marquee name. Not a blockbuster fee. A solution.
Bradley Locko is pushing his way into that conversation.
The Brest defender, 24, is willing to swap Ligue 1 for Old Trafford and link up with Michael Carrick’s squad, according to journalist Dylan McBennett, who reports that the Frenchman would be open to a move before the deadline. He is one of “numerous left-backs with desire to join United this summer,” McBennett posted on X.
United’s need is obvious. With the summer window closing next week, the club have been scouring the market for cover and competition on the left side of defence. The position has been flagged internally as an area that must be addressed before the clock runs out.
There was a flirtation with a glamour option. Fabrizio Romano revealed that United sounded out a move for Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, even holding talks with Jorge Mendes about the Spain international. The message from INEOS, though, has been blunt: too expensive. Transfer fee, salary, the whole package. For now, that level of outlay is off the table.
So United have shifted their gaze. The model, as Romano pointed out, looks closer to the Sergio Reguilon deal – a functional, experienced left-back who can step straight into Premier League intensity, add depth, and bring an international profile without blowing up the budget. A player who solves a problem rather than headlines a marketing campaign.
Locko fits that lane.
On Brest’s books since 2023 and tied down until 2027, he has quietly built a solid reputation in France. Sixty-seven appearances in all competitions, five assists from left-back, and the kind of athletic, modern full-back game that attracts data scouts as quickly as it does old-school managers. He gets up and down the flank, he delivers, he competes.
This is the market United are now working in: players under prime-age contracts at ambitious but sellable clubs, who see Old Trafford as a step up and not a sideways move. Locko ticks that box too. The willingness to join is already there. The question is whether United turn that interest into a formal approach.
Romano has been clear about one thing: United intend to act.
“Manchester United are still looking for a solution at left-back,” he said on his YouTube channel, adding that he expects the club to bring someone in before the deadline.
The pressure is on recruitment to land a defender who can be trusted immediately, but who doesn’t derail other parts of the summer plan.
Locko will not light up social media like a Balde or a superstar name. He is not being sold as that. What he offers is something United have lacked too often in recent years in key positions: reliability, availability, and a profile that fits the squad’s needs rather than the club’s commercial ambitions.
As the final days of the window play out, United’s left-back question is narrowing to a simple choice. Do they lean into pragmatism and move for a player like Bradley Locko, or hold out and risk going short in a position they already know is a problem?
