Marc Guiu Joins RB Leipzig: A New Chapter in His Career

RB Leipzig have doubled down on their identity. Again.

The Bundesliga club have prised Marc Guiu from Chelsea, tying the Spanish centre-forward to a contract until June 2031 and betting that a career stalled in England will catch fire in Saxony.

From prodigy to pawn – and back again

Guiu’s story has moved quickly. At 17, he broke through at Barcelona, another La Masia graduate tipped for the top. Chelsea swooped in 2024, hailing his arrival as a coup and a statement of intent.

Then reality hit.

A swollen squad at Stamford Bridge left him squeezed to the margins. Starts in the Premier League were rare, rhythm impossible. When chances came, they often came in Europe, where he used the Conference League as his showcase, hinting at the ruthless penalty-box striker many scouts believed he could become.

Even his loan spell summed up the chaos. Sent to Sunderland for minutes and continuity, he was recalled in under a month as Chelsea’s own injury problems mounted. One plan ripped up, another improvised. Little stability, even less clarity.

The move to Leipzig changes that.

“Joining RB Leipzig is exactly the right step for me. The club made a real effort to bring me here and, in our talks, gave me a clear idea of the role I can play in the team," Guiu said, sounding like a player who finally knows where he fits.

Leipzig’s next project – but ready for now

For Leipzig, this is not a speculative flutter. It is a targeted investment.

Managing Director for Sport Marcel Schäfer has been clear: Guiu was the priority to refresh an attack losing key forwards. The Spaniard’s profile reads like a checklist for the club’s high-octane style.

“Marc is a very good fit for our RB DNA with his intensity, pace and incredible work rate. He’s relentless in his work without the ball, while he’s also a real presence in the box and is always looking to get at goal," Schäfer said.

That “RB DNA” matters. Leipzig want forwards who press as hard as they finish, who chase lost causes and turn them into chances. Guiu’s frame, movement and appetite without the ball give them exactly that.

Crucially, this was not a late-window scramble. Leipzig’s recruitment department had been tracking him since he left La Masia, waiting for the moment when opportunity and need aligned.

“We’ve been in contact with him for a long time and have followed his development very closely, so we’re delighted that he has chosen RB Leipzig. We’re convinced he has the quality and mentality to make an immediate impact, while he still has plenty of room to develop further,” Schäfer added.

Immediate impact, long runway. It is the model that has underpinned the club’s rise.

A calculated reset in Germany

For Guiu, Germany is not a detour. It is the next deliberate step in a career already shaped by two of the game’s giants.

His path has carried him from Barcelona’s academy to the glare of the Premier League, and now into a club that has built its reputation on turning raw potential into elite performers. That track record is no coincidence, and he knows it.

“RB Leipzig have shown time and again that young players can develop here at the very highest level. RBL are also an ambitious club with high aspirations in every competition. I want to play my part in achieving those goals while continuing to improve every day," he said.

The uncertainty of London is gone. In its place: a long contract, a clearly defined role and a system built for his strengths.

Leipzig have seen this film before with other young talents. The question now is whether Marc Guiu becomes the next name on that list – or the one who raises the bar again.
