Oleksandr Khizhnyak Enters WBA Light Heavyweight Top 15
Oleksandr Khizhnyak’s climb through the professional ranks has taken another sharp step upward. The 2024 Olympic champion has broken into the World Boxing Association’s light heavyweight top 15, entering the latest rankings in 15th place.
It is a rapid reward for a man wasting no time with his transition from the amateur throne to the professional maze.
Key Moment
The key moment came in August in Lviv. Under the lights in his home country, Khizhnyak claimed the first title of his professional career, outclassing Argentine fighter Elias Palacio Durval to secure the WBA Gold International light heavyweight belt.
The scorecards told the story of a one-sided night. The judges returned totals of 99–91, 98–92, and a shutout 100–90 in favor of the Ukrainian, confirming his dominance over ten rounds and underlining the gap in class.
That belt has now translated into meaningful status. WBA recognition at light heavyweight places Khizhnyak on the global map in one of boxing’s most unforgiving divisions, where a top‑15 ranking opens the door to bigger names, higher stakes, and more dangerous assignments.
For Ukraine’s Olympic hero, the amateur chapter is closed. The professional climb has started, and the WBA list now shows his name among the contenders. The only question is how quickly he can turn that number 15 into something far more threatening for the rest of the division.
