Queens Park Rangers' Promising Start: A Cautious Perspective

Queens Park Rangers’ encouraging start has caught the eye, but one seasoned observer is urging a little restraint.

Ian McCullough, a QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress, particularly in the depth of the squad, but warns that the early fixtures demand perspective rather than celebration.

At Blackburn, he believes the difference came from an area that has so often exposed Rangers in recent years.

“They won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said, highlighting a decisive shift from last season. This time, QPR had options. Real options. Players who could change a game rather than simply fill shirts.

“They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed.”

That, for McCullough, is the clearest marker of growth: a squad that no longer falls apart once you look past the starting XI.

But he is not getting carried away, and he does not think the fanbase should either. The fixture list, he points out, has been kind.

As he put it, QPR have faced “three teams really that they should be beating” in Blackburn, Portsmouth and Bolton. These are the games that define competence, not yet ambition. Win them and you’re doing your job. Drop points and the questions come quickly.

“Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked,” McCullough said.

For now, the answers are positive. The real examination of QPR’s revival, though, still lies ahead.
