Raphinha Commits to Barcelona for the Long Haul
Raphinha has heard the rumours, watched his name swirl around the summer market, and decided to end the debate himself. He’s not going anywhere. Not now, and if he gets his way, not ever.
The Barcelona forward has confirmed he wants to stay at the club “for a few more years” and is ready to sit down with the hierarchy to discuss a new contract, despite already being tied to the Camp Nou until 2028.
Captaincy, goals and a new version of Raphinha
Hansi Flick handed Raphinha the armband as first captain this season, a bold move in a dressing room full of big personalities. It has transformed him.
Responsibility hasn’t weighed him down; it has lit him up. The Brazilian currently leads the scoring charts in Spain with nine league goals, driving a Barcelona side that have exploded out of the blocks domestically. He’s not just contributing. He’s defining games.
That surge in form has altered the way he views his own career. When he last renewed, he did so with an eye on the finish line.
"I renewed until 2028 with the idea that, by then, I would be 30 or 31 years old and I didn't know how I would manage," he told RAC1.
Back then, 2028 felt like a natural endpoint. Now, it feels like a checkpoint.
A body that won’t slow down
Raphinha’s physical condition and current level have changed everything. He is playing with the sharpness of a winger at his peak, but with the decision-making of a seasoned leader. That combination has convinced him he can stay at the top of European football longer than he first imagined.
"But given how I've started the season, I understand that I have enough to last a few more years. So, yes, I would be happy to extend my contract a little and finish my career here without having to go anywhere else," he said.
No transfer flirtation. No open doors. Just a clear statement: he wants Barcelona to be both his present and his future.
It is exactly what sporting director Deco wanted to hear. Deco has already signalled that the club intend to secure Raphinha’s long-term future, and the player’s public stance gives Barcelona strong leverage in any negotiations. They are not trying to convince a restless star to stay; they are formalising what he already feels.
Flick’s trust, Barça’s reward
Raphinha looks settled under Flick. The German coach has given him structure, freedom in the final third and, crucially, trust. In return, the Brazilian has delivered numbers and leadership.
His recent hat-trick against Racing Santander captured the full spectrum of his threat: movement, finishing, and an insistence on taking responsibility in decisive moments. Performances like that explain why Barcelona are in no mood to entertain offers, regardless of how the market moves.
He sees this as a relationship worth protecting. The club backed him, the coach elevated him, and now he wants to repay that faith by dedicating the remainder of his prime — and perhaps his entire career — to the shirt.
Next stop: Sevilla, then Europe
The immediate test arrives on Saturday at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, where Barcelona face Sevilla and Raphinha will again lead from the front. With nine league goals already, he goes into the game as La Liga’s most dangerous finisher on current form, intent on stretching that lead.
Once that battle is done, attention turns to the UEFA Champions League, where he has already made his mark this season. His two goals in the 5-1 demolition of Feyenoord underlined his growing status as Barcelona’s go-to man on European nights as well.
A summer of speculation has given way to clarity. Raphinha is scoring, captaining and committing. If Barcelona match his ambition at the negotiating table, the question won’t be where he plays next — it will be how far he can drag this team, at home and in Europe, while wearing their armband.
