Real Madrid Closes Transfer Window: No More Signings for Mourinho
Real Madrid shut the door: no more signings in Mourinho’s first window
The noise around Real Madrid’s summer has been relentless. A new coach, a reshaped squad, a record transfer, and the usual swirl of late-window rumours. But as the clock ticks towards midnight on Tuesday, 1 September, the message from the Bernabeu is blunt: business is done.
According to journalist Jose Felix Diaz, speaking via Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel, Real Madrid will not make any further signings before the window closes. No last‑minute midfielder. No left-footed centre-back. No surprise arrival.
For a club that has spent the summer acting with unusual aggression, the sudden stillness is striking.
Mourinho’s first rebuild takes shape
The new era began with Jose Mourinho walking back through the doors at the Santiago Bernabeu, the headline arrival before a flurry of signings followed. Six major additions have come in, reshaping the spine and the flanks of the squad.
- World Cup winner Marc Cucurella was the first to be unveiled, a statement of intent down the left.
- Ibrahima Konate arrived to add power and presence at the back.
- Bernardo Silva, one of Europe’s most intelligent creators, stepped into the midfield and attacking rotation.
- Denzel Dumfries brought thrust and width on the right.
Then came the deal that shook the market.
Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivorian winger, joined for a fee that could reach €140 million with add-ons, making him the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history. At just 19, he carries both the weight of expectation and the promise of a new attacking era.
On deadline’s eve, Real Madrid also quietly wrapped up a move for 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander. He will start with Castilla, but the club clearly views him as one for the future, not just a body for the youth ranks.
For all that, Mourinho wanted more.
Targets missed, plans adjusted
Throughout the summer, Real Madrid chased a top-level midfielder to complete the picture. Their preferred option was clear: Rodri. Instead, the Spain international chose the other side of the divide and joined arch-rivals FC Barcelona, a blow both sporting and symbolic.
Mourinho also pushed for a left-footed centre-back to balance his defence. Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni topped his list. The fit looked ideal on paper: a natural left-footer, comfortable on the ball, proven at the highest level. Talks, interest, speculation – and then nothing. The move never materialised.
The pressure for reinforcements in those two areas never fully disappeared, but with the deadline looming, Real Madrid have decided to stand pat. The squad Mourinho has now is the one he will take into the opening stretch of the season.
No more arrivals. No late twist.
Door closed for signings, half-open for exits
If the incoming market is shut, the outgoing one remains slightly ajar.
Diaz reports that Real Madrid are still open to departures before the deadline. The most notable case is Eduardo Camavinga. The club have been trying to move the Frenchman on, with strong links to the Premier League, but the midfielder has resisted. He does not want to leave, and so far has stood firm against the idea of an exit.
Raul Asencio faces a similar crossroads. The academy product does not figure prominently in Mourinho’s plans and has been made available for a transfer. Yet he, too, has been reluctant to walk away from the club where he grew up.
Real Madrid, then, enter the final day of the window with clarity on one front and uncertainty on another. No more signings will arrive. The only question left is whether anyone decides to walk out of the door Mourinho has quietly left unlocked.
