Roma Eyes Free Agents for Left Flank Ahead of Atalanta Match
Trigoria looks toward Atalanta, but the transfer market still hums in the background. One problem never really went away: the left flank.
Roma came out of the summer window without the left-back Gian Piero Gasperini had requested. The deadline passed, the squad list closed, yet the need remained. So the club has turned to the only market still open: free agents.
The strategy is cautious. No panic signing, no name for the sake of a headline. Roma will move only if a profile truly matches what the coach wants.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, one name sits squarely in that frame: Wilfried Zaha. The Ivorian, who was already close to joining Roma in 2023, is currently without a club after his last spell and could arrive on a free. A wide player with technique, experience and the ability to attack space, he offers the kind of versatility that can reshape a flank.
He is not the only option on the table. Krépin Diatta, also out of contract after his last season at Monaco, has emerged as another candidate. The Senegalese player brings pace and direct running, a different type of threat for the wing.
Then there is Raphael Guerreiro. At 32, fresh from a season at Bayern Munich, the Portuguese would represent a more classic solution for the left side. Intelligent, technically polished, and accustomed to high-level football, he would instantly raise the tactical ceiling of that flank.
At Trigoria, the priority is clear: protect the balance of a squad preparing for Atalanta, but stay ready. If the right opportunity appears, Roma want to be in a position to strike.
