Sparta Rotterdam Pursues Isaac Babadi Loan from PSV

Sparta Rotterdam are moving to the front of the queue for Isaac Babadi, with the PSV midfielder set for a loan switch to Het Kasteel on Deadline Day, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.

The 21-year-old has been drifting on the fringes at the Philips Stadion. Highly rated, tied to PSV until mid-2028, but stuck in neutral. Game time has dried up under Peter Bosz, and the club has now opened the door for him to leave on a temporary basis.

Interest came quickly. On Tuesday, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta had made their move, sensing an opportunity with a young attacking midfielder who has already tasted top-flight and European football. Sparta have now pulled ahead and are expected to get the deal over the line before the window shuts.

The agreement stands on its own. It is not part of the recent transfer that saw Ayoni Santos move from Sparta to PSV, even if the timing invites comparison. This is a separate calculation: a player in need of minutes, a club in Rotterdam willing to give them to him.

Financially, Sparta will not shoulder the full burden of Babadi’s wages. ED reports that the Eredivisie side will cover only part of his salary, a typical structure for a loan of a long‑contract player. PSV keep their asset protected with a deal running to mid-2028; Sparta get access to his talent without taking on the entire cost.

Babadi’s numbers at PSV underline the frustration. Thirty-five official first-team appearances, three goals, one assist. Enough to show flashes, not enough to build a rhythm. His last match for the PSV first team came back in May of last year, a stark marker of how far he has slipped down the pecking order.

The explanation lies partly in his year abroad. Babadi spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp FC, where he made 21 official appearances. The spell gave him experience, but not a decisive breakthrough back in Eindhoven. On his return, competition for places under Bosz intensified, and his role shrank again.

Now Sparta are ready to offer him what PSV cannot at this moment: a run of games, a central role, a chance to prove that those early expectations still hold weight.

If the move is confirmed as expected later on Deadline Day, Babadi’s next touch of the ball in the Eredivisie will not be in PSV red and white, but in Sparta’s colours — and it may tell us a lot about where his career is really heading.
