Toby Collyer Joins West Brom After Hull City Chase

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is set to make West Bromwich Albion his permanent home after a drawn-out tussle with Hull City for his signature.

United have agreed an initial £3m fee for the 22-year-old, with performance-related add-ons taking the total package to £7.6m. The deal also includes a hefty 40% sell-on clause, underlining how highly the Old Trafford hierarchy still rate the midfielder’s long-term value.

This is not a leap into the unknown for Collyer or West Brom. He spent the first half of last season on loan at the Hawthorns, a spell interrupted by injury but influential enough to leave a strong impression on Baggies boss James Morrison. The Scot pushed hard to bring him back, and in the end that persistence told.

For much of the summer, the chase for Collyer swung back and forth. West Brom looked in pole position early on, only for Hull – where he also spent time on loan during the 2025/26 campaign – to surge into contention and appear close to winning the race. Collyer weighed up both offers, both dressing rooms, both managers.

He has chosen the Midlands. The promise of a bigger role in Morrison’s plans is understood to have been decisive. After a stop-start season, the lure of regular minutes in a side built to suit his strengths proved more persuasive than any alternative.

West Brom get a young midfielder they already trust. Manchester United secure a solid fee and a sizeable stake in his future. Collyer, finally, gets a clear runway. Now he has to show why so many clubs were so keen to land him.
