Wrexham Closing in on £6.5m Callum O'Hare Transfer
Wrexham are closing in on one of the boldest moves of deadline day, with Sheffield United midfielder Callum O'Hare on the brink of a £6.5m switch to north Wales.
The 26-year-old is set to undergo a medical as Wrexham push to get the deal signed off before the 23:00 BST cut-off, a statement of intent from a club refusing to tiptoe through the transfer market.
Wrexham go big
Phil Parkinson has made no secret of his desire to sharpen his attacking options, and Wrexham’s recruitment drive has been relentless in the final days of the window. The club have been linked with a string of forward-thinking players, including Millwall’s Femi Azeez, as they look to add more creativity and goals to a side already on an ambitious upward curve.
O'Hare fits that brief perfectly. An attacking midfielder with pedigree from Aston Villa’s academy and productive spells at Carlisle United and Coventry City, he brings a blend of energy, invention and end product that few in the lower leagues can match.
This is not a speculative punt. This is a marquee move.
Wilder’s frustration, Wrexham’s ambition
The scale of Wrexham’s late-window activity has not gone unnoticed. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder confirmed on Monday that an approach had been made for O'Hare, and he did not hide his irritation at the broader pattern.
Wilder accused Wrexham of a "blanket bombing" strategy in the final stages of the summer window, suggesting the Red Dragons had cast their net across “half the division” as they hunted upgrades before the deadline. His comment carried a hint of exasperation, but also underlined the reality: Wrexham are now operating aggressively in markets usually dominated by established Championship clubs.
Despite Wilder’s stance, Sheffield United are preparing to lose a player who still had two years remaining on his deal at Bramall Lane. O'Hare has not been on the fringes, either. He has featured in every game for the Blades so far this season and found the net in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City.
You don’t casually let that type of player walk away. Not unless the offer, and the player’s desire, make it unavoidable.
A proven creator for a rising project
For Wrexham, this is the kind of signing that changes the temperature around a club. O'Hare arrives not as a reclamation project, but as a current Championship performer, still in his prime, stepping down a level to buy into something bigger.
His ability to drift between the lines, link play and arrive late in the box gives Parkinson a different dimension in the final third. With Wrexham already stocked with goalscorers, adding a midfielder who can both supply and score could tilt tight games in their favour over a long season.
The pressure now sits on the paperwork, the medical and the clock. If Wrexham get this over the line before 23:00 BST, they won’t just have landed a new No 10.
They’ll have sent another clear message about where they intend this story to go next.
