Frodin's Fearless Tennis Journey: A New Chapter
She walked onto the court with a simple plan: strip it all back.
“I tried going out there to see what it would be like just to, I guess, feel no pressure ... just go out there and have a fun time,” Frodin said afterward.
On a stage where nerves usually tighten grips and shorten swings, she chose freedom. Not perfection. Not the weight of expectations. Just tennis.
“I feel like that’s what I accomplished, and obviously I have a lot to learn, but I’m excited with most of the things I did out there.”
Across the net, Elena Rybakina saw it too. The former Wimbledon champion doesn’t hand out praise lightly, yet her verdict was clear: Frodin “played really well today”.
For a teenager still juggling homework with heavy groundstrokes, this is already an unusual story. As a 12-year-old, Frodin served as the stunt and body double for Demi Singleton, the actress who played young Serena Williams in the film about Richard Williams and the rise of daughters Serena and Venus. She once mimicked Serena’s movements for the cameras. Now she’s trying to build a career of her own under the same spotlight.
She has not yet met Serena Williams, though she hopes that day will come. The path in front of her, though, is less scripted than any movie set. College tennis or straight to the pros? She isn’t ready to pin it down.
“I think I’m trying to just finish high school, see where the rest of this year takes me,” Frodin said. “I’m not rushing into kind of making a decision with all that.”
For now, the priorities are simpler: classes, training, and remembering what it felt like to swing freely against one of the best players in the world.
And she already has her eye on a sequel.
“Hopefully the next time I meet her, if I do, I can be more experienced and, yeah, see what I can do,” Frodin said.
The first act was about feeling no pressure. The next one will be about seeing how far that fearless tennis can really go.
