Virginia Tennis Freshman Shannon Lam Wins Flight Title at Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia’s fall season began not with a gentle tune‑up, but with a statement.

At the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Chewning Tennis Center, first-year Shannon Lam walked into her first collegiate event and walked out with a flight title, winning three straight matches to top her eight-player draw. No easing in. No nerves on display. Just wins.

Her breakthrough set the tone for a Cavaliers squad that looked sharp across the board. Three teammates — Katie Rolls, Alyssa James and Blanca Pico Navarro — each pieced together two singles victories to reach the finals of their respective flights, underscoring the depth that Virginia will lean on as the calendar turns toward the bigger stages of the season.

The early success now travels west along I-40. Next stop: Cary, N.C., and the ITA All-American Championships, running Sept. 19-27. It’s the first gateway to the NCAA Individual Championships, and Virginia arrives with momentum, form, and a freshman already playing like she belongs in the national conversation.
