"We are here for the match but unfortunately it rained," said Afghanistan's Mohammad Akram Zazai. "The rain started yesterday, so hard luck for us. We would have been happy to play here with India - our players are in form."

Zazai also pointed out his team’s familiarity with the venue, having played twice already on the same ground, which added to their disappointment.

"We (already) played two matches here on this ground, so we know the condition very well. But unfortunately the rain has ruined everything," he added. "We saw the rain on our mobile phones (this morning). Everyone was sad."

He suggested that even a shortened game with five or six overs could have given Afghanistan a chance to compete.
