Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation
Asif Khan, one of UAE’s most experienced white-ball batters of recent years, has been ruled out of international cricket until December 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping violation.
The 34-year-old tested positive for a banned substance — a metabolite of mesterolone — during an out-of-competition test conducted on September 8, 2025. That date now serves as the start of his suspension, which runs through to December 7, 2026.
A key figure in UAE’s batting order since his debut in 2022, Asif has played 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is, giving the side middle-order stability and valuable experience in qualifying campaigns and associate tournaments. Now, that career is on hold.
The pressure of the case left little room for manoeuvre. Asif admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code — the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample — and accepted the sanction via a Case Resolution Agreement involving the International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
His acceptance brings clarity, but not without cost. All of Asif’s individual results from September 8, 2025, up to the start of his provisional suspension on December 29, 2025, have been disqualified under the ICC Anti-Doping Code. That strip of time is wiped from the record: any runs, awards, medals, points, prize money or other prizes from that period are forfeited.
For UAE, it removes a seasoned campaigner from their plans at a stage when every ranking point and qualifying pathway matters. For Asif, it sets a clear date for a possible return — but also draws a hard line through more than three months of his international career.
