Jersey Dominates Guernsey in Inter-Insular Clash

Jersey’s hold over their old rivals remains unbroken. On a grey afternoon at Grainville, they brushed aside early nerves and a fired‑up Guernsey attack to win the 50-over inter-insular by five wickets and extend a one-day dominance that stretches back to 2015.

It was not as straightforward as the final margin suggests. Chasing 162, Jersey slumped to 21-3 in the ninth over, their top order rattled as Guernsey’s seamers hit hard lengths and found just enough movement to stir belief in the visitors’ camp.

Then Ben Ward walked in and shut the door.

The all-rounder produced an ice-cold 82 not out, steering the chase with a mixture of calm accumulation and calculated aggression. He refused to panic as wickets tumbled around him early on, soaking up pressure, picking off anything loose and slowly draining Guernsey’s early energy.

Turning Point

The turning point came in partnership with Harrison Carlyon. With the game delicately poised, the pair stitched together the stand Jersey desperately needed, blunting Guernsey’s momentum and reasserting control. Singles began to flow, the field spread, and the target started to shrink with quiet inevitability.

By the time Carlyon departed, the damage was done. Ward simply carried on, batting through to the finish as Jersey cruised home in 36.4 overs at 162-5, the wobble of 21-3 reduced to a mere footnote.

Bowlers' Performance

Their bowlers had laid the platform. Jersey strangled Guernsey’s innings, limiting them to 161 all out in 48.4 overs. After a bright start from the visitors, the home attack settled into rhythm, hitting disciplined lines and refusing to let Guernsey break free. The total always felt light for a modern 50-over contest, but the early burst with the new ball briefly turned it into a genuine scrap.

Head coach Neil MacRae acknowledged the shift in momentum after that opening spell, praising both the control with the ball and the composure with the bat when the chase threatened to unravel.

For Jersey, the win is about more than bragging rights in the Channel Islands. It rolls their form and confidence forward into a crucial period as they turn their attention to their final ICC Challenge League tournament later in the autumn, with the inter-insular once again confirming a familiar truth: when the pressure rises against Guernsey, Jersey know how to finish the job.
